As CEO of Suffolk, John Fish leads one of the biggest players in the city’s booming construction industry. With a workforce of about 2,300, Suffolk is behind some of the most distinctive changes to the region’s urban landscape in recent years, including the Encore Boston Harbor casino in Everett, the One Dalton tower in the Back Bay, and the 60-story Millennium Tower in Downtown Crossing.

In a discussion with the Globe, Fish talks about his company’s effect on the rapidly changing Boston skyline, the affordable housing crisis in Boston, and the company’s transformation to a technology company known simply as “Suffolk”. After the Great Recession, “We knew we couldn’t survive going forward just being a general contractor,” Fish says. “And so we sort of turned the company up on its head.”
