Massachusetts on Thursday reported 693 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 5 deaths in the last week.
The state also reported that 160 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19. The seven-day percent positivity was 4.06 percent.
As of April 1, 2023, the state has changed its classification of COVID-19 deaths. Deaths recorded before that date were classified as COVID-19 deaths if a person had COVID listed as a cause of death on their death certificate or if a person had a COVID diagnosis within 30 days even if they did not have COVID listed as a cause of death on their death certificate.

All deaths recorded after April 1, 2023, must have COVID-19 listed as a cause of death on a death certificate to be classified by the state as a COVID-19 death.
The state has also adjusted its reporting on COVID vaccination doses, as of the April 5. 2023 weekly COVID-19 vaccination report. Massachusetts previously reported on the number of individuals who: were fully vaccinated, had received one booster, had received two boosters, and had received more than two boosters.
Now, the state’s vaccination reporting includes only individuals with first doses, those who have completed their “primary series” as defined by the CDC, and those who are “up to date” as defined by the CDC.
